Coffins, urns & tributes
What you can choose from, and the local people we work with. Nothing here has to be decided today, and nobody will try to move you up a range.
Most families arrive with no idea what the choices are, which is entirely normal — it isn't something anyone has thought about before. This page is here so you can look at them quietly, at home, before you sit down with us.
Everything on this page can be seen in person when you come in, and everything we charge for it is published on our prices page.
Coffins and caskets
From traditional veneered coffins to solid timber, wicker and willow, and coffins that can be painted or personalised. What matters is that it suits the person, not that it's the most expensive one on the page.

Urns, caskets and scatter tubes
After a cremation, the ashes can be kept, buried, scattered, or divided between family members — and there is no time limit on deciding. An urn or casket is for keeping or interring; a scatter tube is designed to make scattering straightforward and dignified, often somewhere that mattered.

Scatter tubes
A scatter tube has a lid designed to come away cleanly, so scattering doesn't become a struggle at the moment you least want one. They are biodegradable, and most families choose a design that means something.

A selection of what we keep in branch, photographed here rather than taken from a supplier's catalogue. There are a good many more designs than these — the brochure has all of them.
If you're not sure what you'd like to do with the ashes, say so. Many families take months to decide, and we'll keep them safely in the meantime. We hold ashes for five years, free of charge, and there is no hurry at all: most families take months to decide, and that is fine. If we have not heard from you in that time we will try to reach you at least nine times and keep a record of each attempt, and only if we have had no reply would the ashes be scattered at the crematorium once the five years are up. In practice that almost never happens. If you need longer, just tell us.
The Salisbury Flower Shed
Funeral flowers for the families we look after come from Sue Ford at the Salisbury Flower Shed, at Old Sarum. Every tribute is made individually — coffin sprays, letters, and the shapes that tell you exactly who someone was.
There's no obligation to use her. If you'd rather arrange your own, or a family member wants to do the flowers, that's absolutely fine and we'll work around it.

Spire Memorials
For headstones and memorials we recommend Spire Memorials — a family firm of memorial masons in Salisbury with three decades' experience, and members of NAMM, the National Association of Memorial Masons. Consultations are free, and their showroom can be visited by appointment.
There is no hurry with a memorial. Most families come to it months after the funeral, and many burial grounds ask you to wait while the ground settles. We'll make the introduction whenever you're ready.

Twelve from the range Spire work with, with the catalogue reference against each so you can ask for one by name. There are a great many more designs, materials and finishes — they will show you the full range and talk you through what your churchyard or cemetery permits.
